3D Scanner Projects

I am excited to share my work on a 3D scanning project that involved setting up a 3D scanner, scanning human and animal subjects, and using the resulting data to support VR projects. The project was part of the 6G Flagship program, and it was designed to provide high-quality 3D data for use in various applications.

The 3D scanner was a photogrammetry-based scanner that used a structured camera and projected texture to capture 3D data. The scanner was set up in a dedicated scanning area that was designed to minimize environmental interference and ensure accurate data capture. The scanning process involved preparing the subjects for scanning, positioning them in the scanning area, and capturing the data using the scanner. The data was then processed using a combination of software tools, including Agisoft Pro, Sketchfab, and Blender, to generate 3D models for VR projects.

The scanning process for human and animal subjects differed slightly. Human subjects were scanned standing with their arms raised, and the scanning process took approximately 5-10 minutes per subject. For animal subjects, we had a dedicated mount to ensure the subject stability, and we had to be mindful of their size and shape when positioning them in the scanning area.

The data collected from the 3D scanner was processed using a combination of Agisoft Pro, Sketchfab, and Blender. We used Agisoft Pro to clean up the data, convert images to the point cloud, construct mesh, and ensure that the texture matched the polygon and was ready for publishing in Sketchfab or 3D printing. Additionally, we used Blender to reduce 3D model triangles, remove unwanted noise, reconstruct textures, and export the data in a format suitable for use in VR projects.
